Tools, Tips, and Tricks to Quit Smoking Successfully
Written by Lea Collins.
If you ask any avid smoker whether they’ll even quit smoking, they’ll probably tell you that something like this is practically impossible. Truth be told, it is difficult, and there’s no doubt about it, especially if you’ve been smoking for years or decades.
But does it mean that it’s impossible? Whether you like to admit it or not, there’s no such thing! Of course, just like with many other things, the beginning is the most challenging, but you wouldn’t believe how things change over time.
People can easily adapt to various things, only if they have the will and strength to do it. After all, millions have done it before you, so why wouldn’t you do it, too? If you need some tips and tricks that will make this less stressful, then just cast your eyes on these!
Why This Entire Journey Looks So Difficult?
As stated previously, a vast majority of smokers think that they’ll never be able to quit smoking, and no one can blame them for thinking this way. Bear in mind that nicotine is very addictive and that it affects your brain in many different ways.
Consequently, as soon as you stop smoking, your body will instantly react to this change, not in a very good way. It will go through mood swings, be pretty nervous, irritable, and many other things.
Not to mention the fact that many people include cigarettes in their routines. For instance, they love to combine cigarettes and coffee in the morning, or love to light a cigarette after a meal, when they’re stressed, etc.
And then when they, all of a sudden, stop smoking, they have a feeling as if their routine is completely changed, and it’s going to take some time to adjust to that. Not just physically, but mentally, as well!
Vapes Could Potentially Help!
There’s no need to talk in detail about vapes, because they have been around for quite some time, and most people know what they are and how they function. But what some of you didn’t know is that they are a perfect tool for those who want to quit smoking.
Yes, that’s right. This is especially the case with discreet vapes, which are renowned for helping people gradually eliminate cigarettes from their lives. In fact, there are several studies that have concluded that at times, they are even more efficient than conventional nicotine replacement therapies, such as patches.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that these patches are ineffective; it just means that vapes have turned out to be more successful when it comes to this.
What About The Nicotine Replacement Therapy
Speaking of the devil, let’s further dive into this topic. Namely, some of these treatments consist of smaller amounts of nicotine. That’s the situation with nicotine patches, lozenges, nicotine gums, and nose sprays.
Certain nicotine replacement therapies need a prescription; however, that’s not the case with the rest of them. If this option sounds appealing to you, then you should talk to your healthcare provider to determine what’s the most suitable option for you.
If you live in the United States, then you need to know that the FDA didn’t approve these for children.
Do You Have Any Motivation/Reason?
Although all of the tools and strategies that will be mentioned today will be of huge benefit, what’s important is for you to figure out why you want to quit smoking in the first place. That’s not a decision that someone makes overnight.
There are a number of different reasons why people decide to do it. Some want to improve their health, others think that this habit is quite costly (especially if they smoke a lot), others simply want to regain control over their life again, etc.
The point is that there could be various reasons behind this decision. What you could do is to jot down yours, and be sure to read them every single time you think you want to return to cigarettes.
Whether you believe it or not, something like this is going to keep you motivated and get you back on track.
Choose Your Quit Day
If you cannot do this today or tomorrow, then you should pick a day within a few weeks or so (the sooner, the better) that’s going to be your THE day. Bear in mind that there’s no such thing as an ideal day.
Every day is a great opportunity for this, but it’s up to you to decide which one it is, and once you do it, be sure to add it to your calendar, notebook, or wherever. Speaking of this, do not select special occasions as your quit day, because there’s a chance these celebrations will encourage you to light a cigarette.
If you’re a woman who’s “susceptible” to PMS before the period, then you shouldn’t choose the day that coincides with that.
Keep Reminding Yourself That This Journey Is Not Going To Be Perfect
People who want to eliminate this habit from their lives often have the tendency to be very hard on themselves if they fail in the beginning. But what they need to realize is that this journey doesn’t need to be perfect and that it’s different for everybody.
Some will quit cold turkey, as if tobacco were never in their lives. In contrast, you’ll have those who will make tons of mistakes, only to succeed at some point. Others will take things slowly and eventually quit completely.
In other words, everyone’s journey is different, and people will resort to different methods, the ones that suit them the most. What matters is to listen to your mind and body, and choose the strategy that will work for you.
Just keep reminding yourself that there’s no such thing as the “perfect” path. The only one that’s perfect is the one that helps you ultimately achieve your goal, which is to stop smoking completely.
Eliminating tobacco from your life isn’t just a matter of strong will. There are numerous factors that contribute to the overall outcome. If you’re struggling to find the right method for yourself, then just try to implement some of the suggestions that were mentioned above.
