What are the best types of workwear clothing to buy in bulk?

Whether you’re an independent contractor or run a business that employs a whole team of workers, having the right kind of workwear can be incredibly important. From helmets to work boots, having the right kit is crucial to remaining safe and comfortable while on the job.
There are certain pieces of kit that are best to buy in bulk, allowing you to both benefit from economies of scale and have plenty of pieces in store for when they’re needed. These are a few of the main pieces that you should consider buying in bulk.
Gloves
Gloves are likely the piece of workwear that most people will get through the fastest. Adequate hand protection is critical to being able to do a range of jobs, from general labouring to cleaning tasks, and it’s simply not worth skimping and saving in this area.
Even robust, high-quality pairs can be totally destroyed in a few weeks when subject to sufficiently rough usage, and that’s without even getting into the magic tendency of single gloves to go missing. Buy the right models in large quantities, and make sure that hands are always able to be kept both warm and dry.
High vis gear
High-vis safety gear is a practical and legal must-have on the vast majority of worksites. Items with reflective tape make it possible to be seen by those inside vehicles, while also ensuring that regulators will be happy if they turn up at your site.
High-vis vests and jackets are often subject to a lot of abuse, and can wear out pretty quickly. It’s worth ordering them in bulk, so that you have sufficient quantities for the whole of the year.
Work shirts
If you need to provide your workers with branded workshirts, then that’s absolutely something you’ll want to buy in bulk. Companies like Screen Textiles will often offer per-item cost reductions on larger orders, especially for items that need to be customised using screen printing or embroidery.
Look at the main sizes your employees tend to need, and then buy a sufficient number of work shirts across that range. You’ll want to make sure you have somewhere cool and dry to store them, though, so that you don’t inadvertently end up with boxes full of mouldy cotton!
Helmets
If you have a legal responsibility to provide your workers with helmets, or to wear a functional helmet yourself, then you’ll need to make sure that you have several spares at any given time.
Helmets are surprisingly easy to damage, and also very affordable to have a few spares in stock. When it comes to head safety, it’s really not something that you should try to cut corners with.
Buying workwear in bulk can save you a fair bit of time and money, and as you can see, there are quite a few pieces that are worth taking this approach with. If you notice that you’re getting through a surprising number of items of any piece of clothing, then it’s definitely worth considering adding that piece to the list as well.
