The Best Books for Healthy Development

As an OT and a dad, I’m always on the lookout for interesting books that go a step further than entertainment. I want my kids to read something that challenges their thinking while also learning developmental life skills. This is a compilation of our favorite books that address at least one (usually many) age-appropriate developmental skill.

  • Sensory skills and awareness

  • Problem-solving

  • Emotional awareness

  • Planning

  • Body part recognition

  • Organization

  • Impulse control

  • Flexibility

  • Task initiation and completion

  • Visual-motor skills

  • The importance of individuality
