The signs it's time to replace your underfloor heating
This is a contributed post.
Underfloor heating systems are the perfect solution for a lot of homeowners. They’re often more efficient at heating spaces than radiators, take up less space, and have the wonderful benefit of keeping your feet warm during the winter months.
As with any heating solution, they don’t last forever, and at some point, you’ll need to consider replacing the whole thing. These are a few signs that it could be time to replace, or at least service, your underfloor heating.
There’s no longer any heat
The surest sign that there’s something wrong with your underfloor heating is if there’s no heat coming off the floor. If your boiler is working just fine, and the water pressure is ok, then no heat likely means that the pipes under the floor are playing up.
There are a few things you can do before replacing it, such as checking all the connections and using a flushing service to remove any gunk. Even easier, you might just need to bleed the system and make sure it’s not got any air bubbles. If none of that works, however, it could be time to get it replaced.
Weird underfloor noises
Another sign that it could be time for renewal is if there are any strange, new noises coming from under your floor. If these noises are also accompanied by other changes, such as heating bill changes, then there’s a further indication that something is seriously wrong.
Again, it’s important to first have a heating engineer attend the premises to see if the system just needs servicing. Like with cold patches, heating noises will often mean that you need to bleed the system, which is a lot easier than replacing the whole thing.
Flooring damage
If your flooring is starting to warp, or you can see any wet patches, then you need to act fast. It’s possible that the pipes underneath are starting to leak, and you need to prevent any more serious structural issues.
Call out an emergency plumber and get them to have a look at it. It might be a little more expensive than a regular service, but compared to the costs you’ll incur from water damage, it’s a no-brainer.
It’s old
While age doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to replace your underfloor heating system, there is a chance that you could now get a much more efficient underfloor heating system installed.
Rather than simply going off the system’s age, next time you have a boiler service carried out by an engineer from somewhere like Able Plumbers, ask them what they think. They’ll have a better idea of what other systems are available nowadays, and can give you some more accurate advice based on their experience.
Underfloor heating systems can be a great way to heat your house, but they do need to be looked after. Make sure that you have your heating system properly serviced at regular intervals, and you should be able to avoid having to invest in a complete replacement for as long as possible.
