The Bottom Line

ZBiotics is a 0.5oz genetically engineered bacterium that produces an enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde, which is more toxic than the alcohol itself and a major contributor to hangovers. ZBiotics shines as a pre-party ally for drinkers prone to rough mornings. It offers the potential to significantly reduce symptoms or even eliminate them altogether, depending on the individual, turning potential "never again" nights into productive, hangover-free days.

The advantages are that it’s convenient format, safety, and positive user reviews. Disadvantages include cost and lack of long-term research.

In summary, ZBiotics can be a powerful tool to help minimize or eliminate hangovers and is worth considering for those who want fewer hangover symptoms the next day.

ZBiotics Review

What is ZBiotics?

ZBiotics is a 0.5oz drink crafted to alleviate hangovers by introducing a genetically engineered probiotic called C. beijerinckii ZBI29. This unique probiotic targets acetaldehyde, a toxic byproduct of alcohol metabolism that contributes to hangover symptoms like headaches, nausea, and fatigue. When consumed before or during alcohol intake, C. beijerinckii ZBI29 operates in the gut, efficiently breaking down acetaldehyde before it enters the bloodstream. This targeted approach aims to lessen the impact of hangovers, potentially mitigating common symptoms and providing a more enjoyable post-drinking experience.

From The Manufacturer

The Basics

01 Problem

When you drink, a toxic byproduct called acetaldehyde builds up in your gut. That byproduct is responsible for the particularly rough feelings you get the day after drinking.

Unfortunately, your body isn’t naturally good at breaking down acetaldehyde in your gut. And hydration doesn’t help either. Our bodies just didn’t evolve to handle lots of acetaldehyde.

02 Solution

ZBiotics helps your body catch up, by temporarily adding good bacteria to your gut that can break down acetaldehyde.

These bacteria have been engineered to produce the same type of enzyme found in your liver – replicating its key function where it matters: your gut.

03 Result

Acetaldehyde is broken down, setting you up for a better day after drinking.

Our Scientific Approach

Where did this new acetaldehyde-digesting probiotic come from? We invented it, by combining probiotic bacteria and genetic engineering.

We started with a natural probiotic bacteria called B. subtilis, which humans have been eating for centuries in fermented foods like natto (fermented soybeans from Japan). Then we altered its DNA so that, in addition to its regular functions, it also produces an enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde.

It’s like those probiotics in your kombucha suddenly acquired a new skill. They do everything they did already, plus they now have a specific, helpful function.

Selling Points

  • It can reduce or eliminate hangover symptoms: ZBiotics contain a genetically engineered bacterium that produces an enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde, a major contributor to hangovers. While research is still ongoing, many users, including myself on multiple occasions report feeling milder hangovers after taking ZBiotics before drinking.

  • Safe and FDA-compliant: ZBiotics is FDA-compliant for safety and uses a naturally occurring bacteria strain with a long history of safe consumption.

  • Convenient and easy to use: ZBiotics comes in pre-measured single-serving 0.5oz. bottles, making it easy to travel with, store, and share..

  • Positive user reviews: While my anecdotal experience is nice, it’s worthless if no one else gets the benefit. ZBiotics has many user testaments across many independent sites reporting similar findings: it works to reduce or eliminate hangover severity.

Drawbacks

  • Limited research: While initial studies suggest ZBiotics may be effective, more research is needed to understand its efficacy and long-term safety fully.

  • Not a cure-all: ZBiotics is not gauranteed to eliminate hangovers entirely (although it has been shown to for some) and responsible drinking practices are still essential.

  • Cost: ZBiotics comes in at around $12/bottle.

Who Do I Recommend It For?

  • Anyone who drinks more than 2-3 drinks in a night.

  • Anyone who is known to have severe hangover symptoms.

  • Anyone going on a multi-day trip (e.g. destination wedding, vacation, reunions), where you’ll be drinking over multiple days and can’t spend the day rehabbing in bed.

  • Parents.

Tips

  • Don’t rely on ZBiotics to do 100% of the work in hangover prevention. Make sure that you still hit the essentials before drinking, while drinking, after drinking:

    • Before drinking: Stay hydrated, with electrolytes. Eat a high-protein meal. Get in a good workout. Take a multivitamin.

    • During drinking: Get enough water, pace yourself, and favor day drinking overnight drinking so it has less of a disrupting pattern on your sleep.

    • After drinking: Chug an electrolyte drink before bed. Take magnesium. If you can, leave a few hours between your last sip and the time you hit the hay.

  • Don’t forget to take it before drinking. Set a reminder if needed.

  • Have a stash in your med cabinet for the last-minute situations.

My Experience

Alcohol is toxic but alcohol is fun. It’s probably my biggest vice and one that I indulge in significantly less than I did back in the day. While I’ve had my share of hangovers, they’ve always been relatively mild with only a handful of those “I’m never drinking again” nights under my belt. As I’ve gotten older, however, that’s been changing.

With less drinking comes a lower alcohol tolerance. This means that when I do push it beyond my typical 1-3 beer limit I feel it in the next day. I live a very healthy lifestyle so on days when I know I’m drinking, I’ll dial it all in a little more by incorporating the above tips I mentioned. This helps but doesn’t mitigate the hangover so I was curious if some genetically engineered half shot of a drink could be effective at making it even better.

I decided to give ZBiotics a try. The first time was before a regular Wine Night with friends where up to 9 bottles of wine are tasted and ranked, a worse-case hangover scenario for me. My wife and I each threw a ZBiotic back and then had our first drink shortly thereafter. We both kind of liked the taste which was a light, citrusy tarty flavor.

Wine night was a success and after many wines, many beers, and bed past my usual bedtime, I woke up feeling like a machine. I woke up at 6 am, crushed my first Peloton cycling workout, walked 4 miles, and did a 30-minute lifting session before reading a few chapters of a book. I was hangover-free and felt great. My wife was not 100% hangover-free and said, “I definitely think I would have felt worse if I didn’t take that ZBiotic.”

The second time I took it, I saved it for a night out with friends. The results were the same. I threw back multiple beers, stayed up later than usual, and woke up feeling great.

I transitioned from skeptic to believer in those two nights and now ZBiotics has a permanent spot in my pre-party prep routine for any bigger events such as weddings or all-day affairs.

The Final Verdict: Are ZBiotics Worth It?

If you're a moderate drinker who occasionally suffers from rough mornings after social outings, or if you're facing a hangover-intensive event like a multi-day celebration, ZBiotics is definitely worth exploring. Its potential to transform a potential "never again" experience into a productive, hangover-free day is certainly worth the investment.

Remember, responsible drinking is always key. ZBiotics can be a powerful tool in your pre-party arsenal, but pair it with healthy habits and moderation for the best results. Ultimately, the decision is yours. But if you're tired of battling hangovers, ZBiotics might just be the scientifically-backed hero you've been waiting for.

It's important to note that ZBiotics isn't a magic wand for everyone. If you find yourself constantly pushing the boundaries of responsible drinking or struggling with alcohol dependence, please reach out to a healthcare professional or reliable resources like the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) at 1-800-662-HELP (4357). Sometimes those rough mornings serve as a valuable form of negative reinforcement, reminding you to prioritize your health and well-being.

But for those who can enjoy social events with responsible moderation, ZBiotics offers a chance to embrace the occasional "hangover recipe" without fearing the dreaded aftermath.

FAQ

What does ZBiotics actually do?

It contains a special probiotic that breaks down acetaldehyde, the main culprit behind that nasty hangover headache. Think of it as a tiny Pac-Man gobbling up those unwanted byproducts before they cause havoc.

How does the probiotic strain in ZBiotics work?

Bacillus subtilis BAU003 works by metabolizing acetaldehyde, a toxic byproduct of alcohol breakdown before it can wreak havoc in your system.

Is ZBiotics vegan and gluten-free?

Yes.

How much alcohol can I drink with ZBiotics?

ZBiotics isn't a license to go on a bender. Responsible drinking applies—stick to the usual guidelines and listen to your body. Remember, it's about lessening the hangover, not eliminating it altogether.

Does it affect intoxication or make alcohol safer?

Nope. ZBiotics doesn't change your blood alcohol level or lessen the effects of alcohol, so drink responsibly and never try to "outdrink" the probiotics.
